96 ford probe help any one who knows about engines or timing belt?

ok so bought a piece of junk , car was overheating replaced all parts that i thought it could be kept doing it so stayed close to home good thing too cause I heard a small pop and it died. found on road dead! anyway I am pretty sure its the timing belt that snapped if it was does anyone know if this will cause overheating and if so as I was driving while this happened I was told i might need a new head and valves if it is an interference motor does anyone know the car is a 96 ford probe se 4 cyl.I appreciate any and all help thank you
